Home-made beef stew

I made a pot of stew for X’mas weekend! The weather was super cold, so eating stew just gives me a warm feeling 🙂

It’s the first time I used fresh herbs like rosemary, thyme and bay leaves. I was surprised that these herbs gives a FABULOUS aroma to the stew… it was PRICELESS 🙂 it was also the first time, I used red wine in a recipe! wah… this is a simple recipe with resturant standard!

Recipe found here! Thank you!
Noobcook uses a french oven for cooking beef stew. However, I don’t have a french oven 🙁 I used the stove to mk sure that my beef is cooked to a certain tenderness… well.. turns out that some of the beef chunks were very soft and tender ( melts in your mouth texture) while others were ‘hard like rock’ 🙁 That’s when I realised that I need a french oven!!

Anyhow, the following week.. as though I missed the aroma of the herbs, I tried the same recipe with chicken ( with chicken stock).. which tasted great too!! Chicken was much easier to work with.. they all taste tender after cooking on the stove. However, beef mks the stew more flavourful!

I used to buy instant stew mix ( in boxes) in the Japanese food aisle.. I find it very starchy which is yucky at times! Really glad that I found this recipe.. now I mk my own stew! and I can control the starchness 🙂

Ok… now I’m convinced that I need a french oven!!
